The year 2020 presented some overwhelming experiences for businesses in the country, with its impact trickling into various sectors of the Ghanaian economy. Businesses were largely affected as a result of the novel coronavirus outbreak. Many, were compelled to cut down on overheads, and capital investments continued to dwindle as a result of the pandemic but this presented some opportunities for Takoradi-based engineering equipment and consumable company; Supply Champion Company Limited.
Recounting some successes made over the past year, the Manager of the company, William Boitey indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic though challenging, excited some innovation to expand their horizon and make the best of relationships with clients.
He scored that the business environment was relatively favorable over the past year, adding that he expects the new year to be fulfilling for the company and its clients.
“The nature of the industry is that you encounter a different challenge every day. There are probably things that we might not know about it, so when a client comes, you have to research and find it. So we are always busy. Finding out something new and delivering something that excites the client.
“COVID-19 hit us hard and for me, it meant we needed to move out of our comfort zone and engage new clients, new sectors. And we’ve been doing great at that. And this has gotten us into some relationships with companies that we typically never had, and this had helped us.”
Customer Satisfaction
Ratings and feedback from clients have been impressive, and the company promises to build upon its service delivery in the new year. Vincent Abbey, a client of the company shared that after-sales support had been a remarkable feat of Supply Champions, one he noted sets them apart from other competitors in the industry.
“My expectation is that all requests that we put in, they would give us the needed support to improve our work,” he added.
Collaboration and Capacity Building
The Chief Executive Officer for Sekondi Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (STCCI), Mr. Vincent Annan urged the company and partners to collaborate and build the individual capacities of organisations in the Western Region. He argued that synergies that are developed via such collaborations are what could drive the local economy of the region.
“…so that where we even fall in terms of capacity, we can leverage partners to shore up ours and become a reliable team. We need to erode that misconception that Takoradi does not have the capacity. We need to get over it. And this could be done through strategic collaborations, and STCCI is ready to facilitate that.”
He indicated that the STCCI recognizes every business organisation as a family in a bigger agenda taken to transform the Western Region. He mentioned that a virtual trading platform is set to go live to facilitate trade among partners including Supply Champions, and others across the globe.
“We’ve created this platform to allow business trade online. It provides the right environment for marketers to expose their products and services to the global market.”
In recognition of hard work and loyalty, Supply Champions rewarded some 17 staff, with Mr. Samuel Agyei as the Employee of the Year 2020. Mr. Agyei took home a brand new 49 inches LED Samsung Smart Television, as his reward.
The Manager, Mr. Boitey promised to make subsequent awards scheme more competitive but gratifying.
